There are many places to visit in the surrounding area, the following are a few suggestions:


The Beautiful City of Salzburg - Salzburg City The famous cultural city of Salzburg was recently voted the third most beautiful city in Europe. Visit Mozart’s birthplace, Salzburg Cathedral or take the famous Sound of Music Tour. Many other interesting tours are available in and around Salzburg by bus, boat, bicycle or the famous horse-drawn cabs known as Faikers. With over 800 shops, Salzburg offers delightful shopping in the historic lanes and alleys of the old city. To finish the day out, you can dine out in one of the many award winning gourmet restaurants, pavement cafes or typical Austrian coffee shops. A Salzburg card is recommended to gain best value out of a day to Salzburg and these are available from the tourist information offices.


Grossglockner Glacier and High Alpine Road - At 3,798m the Grossglockner is not only the highest mountain in Austria, it also counts among the highest peaks in the Alps. With the building of the Grossglockner High Alpine Road, the majestic peak acquired a new dimension. As a popular excursion destination it is the epitome of an impressive natural experience for many people: size and power can be felt here, one is subject to the fascination of the eternal ice and the elemental force of nature. The most famous alpine road leads you into the heart of the Hohe Tauern National Park, to the highest mountain in Austria, the Grossglockner (3,798m) and its glacier, the Pasterze. You will have a driving and nature experience of a special kind on 48 kilometres of high alpine road with 36 bends, and an altitude ascent to 2,504 metres! You pass through a unique world of mountains with blossoming alpine meadows, fragrant mountain forests, massive cliffs and eternal ice to the foot of the Grossglockner, the Kaiser-Franz-Josefs-Höh . The special part: this drive will also certainly be an unforgettable experience for your children. Because the Glockner mascot, MURMI – naturally a real Glockner marmot (not shy of humans and always ready for fun) – accompanies the entire family and invites one and all to play, experience and understand.


Stunning waterfalls at Krimml - The waterfalls at Krimml are the largest in Europe, and the fifth largest in the world. An uphill 4 Km path leads directly to this breathtaking natural spectacle. From the lowest waterfall (10 minutes from the car park) to the highest fall is a walk of about 1.5 hours. Good shoes and shower proof clothing a walking stick are recommended. There is also an Aqua-Park where it is possible to learn all about the power of water in an exciting, instructive and entertaining way. In summer it is possible to combine a visit to Krimml Waterfalls with a steam train journey for part of the route from Zell am See to Mittersill. From here a bus continues your journey to the falls. In winter opening times are restricted and subject to weather conditions.You are advised to check first.

Kaprun High Alpine Reservoirs

Kaprun High Alpine Reservoirs - An excursion to the High Alpine Reservoirs (Stauseen) at nearby Kaprun is a really good value interesting and exciting excursion suitable for all the family. The journey starts from the Kesselfall Alpenhaus, just a short way along the same road as the Kitzsteinhorn Glacier lift. Tickets can be purchased at the ticket office. A short bus journey begins the tour, taking you to the Lärchwand Lift - Europes largest open-plan diagonal lift, which carries you to 1640m above sea level. Buses wait at the top to transport you for the remaining short journey to the reservoirs at 2040m. This is the starting point for many marked walking routes, ranging from a casual walk, to serious trecks - some even camping overnight and suitable only for experienced mountaineers. There are short guided walks every 45 minutes from 10.00 to 15.00. There is a cafe bar and restaurant and an interesting visitor centre with interactive displays. A childrens " pet zoo" and nature walks will keep younger children happy. Good walking shoes, a warm and waterproof outdoor jacket and a camera are recommended.
